Monrovia, Liberia | Children walk on beached fishing boats as the Liberian flag waves in the background of the West Point fishing community. West Point leaders are worried they will be displaced by the government to make way for hotel developers and forced into a land-locked area that would make fishing, their livelihood, difficult. Everyday Africa goes to the Bronx. Today was the first day of an eight-week after-school program with 7th and 8th graders, using our images to break down stereotypes of life in Africa. In the end the students will launch their own Everyday Bronx project. Here the students discuss an image by @janehahn. Special to thanks to Open Society Foundations, the Pulitzer Center, The LAMP, Uncharted Digital, and @bronxdocumentarycenter. Photo by @austin_merrill. #africa #bronx #bdc #school #students

Kantamanto Market brims with activity on a Saturday morning. This is a second-hand goods “broni wawu” market. It is a good place to find quality items at affordable prices. A lot of brand new items in shops are cheap Chinese imitations but since most of the second-hand goods come from Europe and America, the quality is perceived to be better. And for the prices they sell, you can’t get a better deal anywhere else. “Broni Wawu” means “Dead white people’s stuff”.
